Cosmo Clock 21 & Yokohama Port Horns|A Very Yokohama-Style Countdown

One New Year’s Eve tradition in Yokohama & Minato Mirai that people talk about every year is the countdown atmosphere around Cosmo Clock 21 (the giant Ferris wheel).

In past years, as midnight approaches, countdown numbers have appeared on Cosmo Clock 21, and
people have seen the moment when ships docked in Yokohama Port sound their horns right at 12:00 a.m.

There isn’t a flashy stage show or an official performance, but the feeling of welcoming the New Year with “sound and light” is uniquely Yokohama—and it’s a tradition many people enjoy every year.

*Important Note
This countdown display is not something that is officially announced in advance as “We will do it again this year.”
For 2025→2026, there is also no confirmed information, so please understand it as a customary tradition seen in many years.

Yokohama Night Flowers|Let’s Enjoy a Year-End “Fireworks Finale”

The fireworks that are confirmed for the end of the year are Yokohama Night Flowers.

[Yokohama Night Flowers Event Details]
・Date: Wednesday, December 31, 2025
・Time: 19:00–19:05
・Location: Osanbashi Pier / Shinko Pier

It’s only a five-minute show, but it’s the perfect event as a “fireworks finale”—enjoying fireworks as a grand closing to the year.

An important note: there will be no fireworks launched at 0:00 (midnight) on New Year’s Day.
Since fireworks do not go off at the exact moment the New Year begins,
please be careful if you are visiting expecting “countdown fireworks.”

Last time, fireworks launched right as the New Year began… it’s a bit sad there won’t be any this year.

You can see the fireworks from many places around the Minato Mirai area, but our top recommendation is Osanbashi Passenger Terminal. From the sea side, you can enjoy the fireworks together with the Yokohama & Minato Mirai night view.
In our Yokohama Port Festival fireworks report, we also explain the view from Osanbashi—please use it as a reference♪

What About Paid Countdown Events? (Mostly Sold Out)

In Yokohama & Minato Mirai, paid countdown events like the following are held in many years.

  • Yokohama Marine Tower countdown event
  • Yokohama Landmark Tower New Year programs
  • Seabus countdown cruises
  • Marine Rouge countdown cruises

However, for 2025→2026, most of these were already sold out or closed for reservations as of December 16.

Since it’s quite difficult to get a new reservation at this point,
it’s most realistic to treat this as “reference information for future years.”

In early December, tickets were still on sale everywhere… once December starts, you really need to book right away.

Summary|How to Enjoy the 2025→2026 New Year Countdown in Yokohama

For 2025→2026 in Yokohama & Minato Mirai, the key points for a free New Year’s Eve experience are as follows.

  • At 19:00 on Dec 31, enjoy a fireworks finale with “Yokohama Night Flowers”
  • Late at night, enjoy the countdown atmosphere around Cosmo Clock 21
  • Welcome the New Year quietly with Yokohama Port horns and the night view

It’s not a super flashy event, but that’s exactly the charm—a calm New Year’s Eve that feels truly Yokohama, a port city.

We hope you’ll spend this year-end and New Year’s in Yokohama & Minato Mirai♪

Extra|All-Night Train Operations on New Year’s Day (2025→2026)

One thing you’ll want to know for getting home after the countdown is all-night train operations on New Year’s Day.

In the Yokohama & Minato Mirai area, only JR East lines operate all night.

  • Keihin-Tohoku / Negishi Line (including Yokohama Station and Sakuragicho Station)
  • Yokosuka Line (including the section that includes Yokohama Station)
  • *Major Tokyo-area lines such as the Yamanote Line and Chuo Line are also included

On the other hand, Yokohama Municipal Subway, Tokyu Line, Keikyu Line, and the Minatomirai Line do not operate all night.

They do run on special New Year holiday schedules, but service stops during the late-night hours, so please be careful.
If you plan to go home late at night, it’s safest to base your movement around JR Sakuragicho Station or Yokohama Station!

Don’t Miss the First Sunrise from Yokohama & Minato Mirai!

After the countdown, you might want to catch the first sunrise of the year at daybreak!
Yokohama & Minato Mirai have many spots facing the sea on the east side—such as Rinko Park—and the view is open, making it a perfect location for watching the first sunrise.

From the countdown to the first sunrise, spending New Year’s in a Yokohama & Minato Mirai hotel is also a great option! You can even watch the sunrise over Yokohama Port from some hotels.

It looks like vacancies are becoming limited, so if you’re interested, check early♪
