Where Is Yokohama and What Makes It Special?

Yokohama is a port city located just about 30 minutes by train from central Tokyo, and it is one of Japan’s most popular sightseeing destinations. The city offers a unique mix of a futuristic waterfront skyline in the Minato Mirai district, the historic and colorful Yokohama Chinatown, and a variety of seaside parks and promenades. It’s a place where you can enjoy both the openness of a harbor town and the excitement of a modern city at the same time.

After dark, the Ferris wheel, Landmark Tower, and other buildings are beautifully lit up, making Yokohama one of the best night-view spots in Japan. With the sea, high-rise towers, and historic architecture all layered together, the scenery naturally lends itself to dramatic stories—so it’s no surprise that films and anime often choose Yokohama as a setting.

Because the 2026 Detective Conan movie focuses on highways, the Kanagawa Prefectural Police, and a port city, many fans are wondering: “Will Yokohama be the main stage this time?” Even if it’s your first visit, the main areas are compact and easy to walk around, making Yokohama a perfect destination for both regular sightseeing and anime pilgrimage.

The 29th feature-length movie, scheduled for release on April 10, 2026, is titled:
“Detective Conan: The Fallen Angel of the Highway.”

The main visual shows the Kanagawa Prefectural Police motorcycle officer Chihaya Hagiwara together with Conan, with Jugo Yokomizo and Masumi Sera standing behind them.

As the title suggests, the keyword of this movie is clearly the “highway.”
Official information has already confirmed that the Kanagawa Prefectural Police will play a major role, so it’s only natural that fans are getting excited and thinking, “Does this mean the story will be set around Yokohama and the bayside area?”

In past Conan movies, real landmarks like Tokyo Tower, luxury cruise ships, and airports have often taken some serious damage, right? (laugh)

2026 Movie “Detective Conan: The Fallen Angel of the Highway” – Latest Official Information

First, let’s briefly review the key points that have been officially announced about the upcoming 2026 movie. (Don’t worry, we won’t go into any deep spoilers.)

  • Title: Detective Conan: The Fallen Angel of the Highway
  • Release date: Friday, April 10, 2026 (planned)
  • 29th film in the Detective Conan theatrical series
  • Tagline: “Don’t fall off, kid—”
  • The main spotlight is on Chihaya Hagiwara, a motorcycle officer in the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Traffic Division
  • The teaser visual also features Jugo Yokomizo, Masumi Sera, and the late Kenji Hagiwara & Jinpei Matsuda

As the title indicates, this movie will likely focus heavily on both highways and the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Traffic Division.
It’s probably safe to say that the story will be set in Kanagawa Prefecture, but which city will be the main stage has not yet been officially confirmed.

That said, when you put “Kanagawa” and “highway” together, it’s easy to imagine that Yokohama’s bayside area—such as Bay Bridge, Honmoku Pier, and Yamashita Pier—are strong candidates as key locations.
In this article, we’ll have some fun imagining Yokohama through the lens of the movie, with the clear understanding that anything not yet announced is purely fan speculation.

[Trailer & Official Hints] What Clues Are Hidden in “The Fallen Angel of the Highway”?

In the teaser shown after the end credits of the previous movie “Detective Conan: The One-Eyed Specter,” a particularly striking exchange was heard. After the main story ends, a scene of a motorcycle racing through what looks like a tunnel appears on screen. Then we hear this dialogue:

Ran: “The goddess of the wind…”
Jugo Yokomizo: “She’s no goddess, she’s a pirate queen.”
Chihaya Hagiwara: “Oh, shut up.”

This exchange feels like more than just a comedic throwaway line.
“Wind” evokes the speed and danger of racing down a highway, while “goddess/pirate queen” hints at Chihaya’s risky charm and her past. And the word “pirate” naturally brings to mind a port town by the sea.

Characters Likely to Play a Major Role in the 2026 Movie (Chihaya Hagiwara & Jugo Yokomizo)

Let’s quickly recap the two characters who appear in the teaser and official visuals.

[Chihaya Hagiwara]

  • A motorcycle officer in the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Traffic Division. She’s a cool-headed female cop known for her sharp riding skills and straightforward personality.
  • Her younger brother is Kenji Hagiwara, a bomb disposal expert who appeared in earlier stories and died in the line of duty.
  • This movie is expected to be her first full-scale starring appearance in a Conan film, and fans are extremely excited.

[Jugo Yokomizo]

  • A veteran detective from the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Investigation Division. He may have a rough way of speaking, but he’s a reliable cop at heart.
  • He has a twin brother, Sango Yokomizo, who works for the Shizuoka Prefectural Police.
  • As the “face” of the Kanagawa side who oversees the Yokohama area, he’s likely to be deeply involved in the core of the story.

Could the 2026 Conan Movie Be Set in Yokohama? 7 Key Spots We Predict

From here on, this is all just fun fan speculation, but based on the combination of “highway” × “port city” × “Kanagawa Prefectural Police,”
we’ve picked out seven Yokohama locations that seem especially likely to serve as major settings.

[1] Daikoku Pier (Daikoku Bridge)
If you’re going to show bikes racing at high speed, this is the perfect straight stretch of road.
The surrounding container yards, warehouses, and overlapping expressway ramps create a slightly dark, suspenseful atmosphere that feels perfect for a serious incident.
The industrial night view would be ideal for stakeouts or intense chase sequences.

[2] Minato Mirai (from Red Brick Warehouse to Sakura-dori)
Minato Mirai is one of Japan’s best-known waterfront sightseeing areas.
The illuminated Ferris wheel, the Red Brick Warehouse, and the light-lined Sakura-dori street would all look fantastic in a climactic scene.
Since the area’s atmosphere changes completely from day to night, it would be easy to create a contrast like “daytime date spot, nighttime crime scene.”

Minato
ミナト

In fact, in the 30-second teaser video, there’s already an aerial-style shot that looks very much like the area around the Red Brick Warehouse!

[3] Bayshore Route & Yokohama Bay Bridge
For any action movie, you really want a major expressway and a huge bridge.
The height of the Bay Bridge’s main towers and the sweeping curves over the ocean are a perfect match for a white-bike chase sequence.
It also fits incredibly well with the tagline “Don’t fall off, kid—”.

[4] Yokohama Chinatown
A bustling district full of alleys that are ideal for chase scenes or information-gathering.
The colorful gates (paifang) and slightly mysterious atmosphere would make a great backdrop for Conan.

[5] Yamashita Park & Harbor View Park
Quiet seaside parks that feel perfect for emotional dialogue scenes.
You can easily imagine characters talking while feeling the sea breeze, with sunset or night views behind them.
These spots would also pair nicely with the “goddess of the wind” line from the teaser.

[6] Kanagawa Prefectural Police Headquarters (Kannai)
This would be the natural location for strategy meetings or scenes that dig into the heart of the case.
As the home base of Yokomizo, Chihaya, and the others, it has a high chance of appearing.
Combined with the classic streetscape around Nihon-odori, the visuals could be incredibly striking.

[7] Honmoku Pier
A full-scale cargo port with an atmosphere that lends itself well to smuggling operations or infiltration missions.
Just imagine a white bike weaving through narrow paths between shipping containers in the middle of the night—it already feels like a Conan movie climax.
From there, the chase could race onto the Bayshore Route and toward the Bay Bridge… it’s easy to picture.

[Pre-Movie Pilgrimage] Yokohama Spots to Visit Before Watching the Film

Next, here are some “Yokohama pre-movie pilgrimage” spots that will help you slip into the world of “The Fallen Angel of the Highway” even before you sit down in the theater.
(We plan to cover specific tickets and activities in more detail in separate articles♪)

  • Yokohama Landmark Tower Sky Garden
An observation deck where you can see the entire area from Minato Mirai to Bay Bridge and Daikoku Pier.
It’s the perfect place to get a “bird’s-eye preview” of the highways and harbor areas that might become the movie’s stage.
  • Osanbashi International Passenger Terminal
From the rooftop deck, you get a clear view of Bay Bridge and the Honmoku Pier area, making it a great place to soak up the “port city × highway” atmosphere.
  • Seabass (boat service from Yokohama Station to Minato Mirai and Red Brick Warehouse)
A classic cruise that lets you see Minato Mirai and Bay Bridge from the sea.
If you experience “Yokohama’s night view from the water” beforehand, the movie’s visuals may feel even more immersive.
  • Factory Night View Cruise
This cruise lets you enjoy an illuminated industrial complex that feels similar to the scenery along the Bayshore Route.
The silhouettes of pipes, tanks, and bridge piers are an excellent match for the aesthetic of a Conan movie.

  • Airport Limousine Buses to Haneda Airport
If you take an airport or highway bus from Yokohama Station (YCAT) to Haneda Airport, you’ll experience a mini “highway journey” through the Bayshore Route, factory zones, and finally the airport itself.
Try riding while imagining, “Maybe the final act of the movie will race along a route like this…”

Summary: Will the 2026 Conan Movie Start a New Story in the Port City of Yokohama?

From everything we’ve seen so far, the 2026 Conan movie “The Fallen Angel of the Highway” looks like it will strongly feature the themes of Kanagawa Prefectural Police × highways × port city.
Among possible locations, the area stretching from Yokohama and Minato Mirai to Honmoku Pier and Bay Bridge seems especially likely as a candidate for the main stage.

That said, we still don’t know which locations, if any, will actually appear in the film.
That uncertainty is part of the fun—now is the perfect time to rewatch the past “Yokohama episodes,” stroll around the predicted spots introduced in this article, and enjoy making your own “prediction game” before the movie comes out.

Will any of the places we introduced today actually show up on screen? Be sure to check for yourself at the theater!

Past Conan Movies and Episodes Featuring Yokohama & Minato Mirai

When we looked into it, we found that Yokohama and Minato Mirai have already served as models for several stories across the Conan universe, including movies, anime episodes, and manga chapters. Let’s go through them one by one♪

Movie: “Detective Conan: The Private Eyes’ Requiem” (2006) – A Big Hit Set in Yokohama

The first title we absolutely can’t leave out is the movie “Detective Conan: The Private Eyes’ Requiem.”

In this film, Conan and friends visit a Yokohama theme park called “Miracle Land.” The park is modeled on the urban amusement park Cosmo World in Minato Mirai, as well as the attractions of Hakkeijima Sea Paradise. The ending credits also show various real-life locations from around the area.

Mirai
ミライ

The movie shows so many real Yokohama locations that it’s impossible not to get excited watching it♪

In addition to Minato Mirai, you can spot many other real-life Yokohama locations like Bashamichi. Landmark Tower appears, Osanbashi Pier appears, and the name “Minato Mirai” itself is clearly mentioned.

You can either watch the movie first and then walk around Minato Mirai looking for familiar spots, or explore the city beforehand and then enjoy the movie thinking, “Hey, that’s where we were!”—both approaches are fun in their own way.

Anime Episode 284: “The Forgotten Cellphone in the Chinese Restaurant” – Yokohama Chinatown as the Model

There’s also an anime episode where Yokohama serves as the model.
In this story, Conan and friends visit Yokohama Chinatown.
The depiction of Chinatown is quite realistic, making you feel almost as if you’re actually there.
The specific restaurant model hasn’t been officially confirmed, and fans have put forward various theories. While everything remains speculation, here are a few of the leading candidates♪

[Pilgrimage Theories] Three Possible Model Restaurants from the Anime (Yokohama Chinatown)

Heichinrou Yokohama Main Restaurant – A Prestigious Cantonese Institution (Bankrupt in 2025)

Founded in 1884, this was one of the most prestigious Cantonese restaurants in Chinatown.
The interior featured grand chandeliers, gold-based décor, marble floors, and a truly luxurious atmosphere.
In the anime, the restaurant scenes show round tables, a spacious layout, and a high-end interior design, all of which line up well with Heichinrou’s style.

※ On May 21, 2025, Heichinrou unfortunately filed for bankruptcy.

Manchinro Honten – Red & Gold Interior That Looks Just Like the Anime Background

Manchinro was founded in 1892. It’s a famous Cantonese restaurant often visited by celebrities and public figures, sometimes described as “the face of Chinatown.”
The most notable features are its lacquered columns, red-and-gold interior, and intricate wood carvings—all of which look fantastic on camera.
Because the anime restaurant has a similarly calm yet imposing atmosphere, it’s frequently mentioned as a strong candidate for the model.

Minato
ミナト

I actually went here once on a friend’s recommendation. The atmosphere was calm, the food was delicious, and surprisingly, it wasn’t as expensive as I expected. I’d love to introduce it properly another time♪

Jukeihanten Honten – A Famous Sichuan Restaurant Some Fans See as the Model

This long-established restaurant is a representative of Sichuan cuisine in Yokohama. Its crimson carpets, red décor, and grand round tables leave a strong impression.
In the anime, the restaurant scenes show a red-based interior, sliding panels reminiscent of traditional doors, and rotating round tables, prompting some fans to draw parallels with Jukeihanten.
The exterior—with its calm brick-style façade and imposing entrance—also reminds some people of the anime’s background art.

Other candidates that come up in fan discussions include the main branches of Dohatsu and Kaseiro.

We’ll probably never know for sure which restaurant was the exact model, but that’s part of the fun. Saying things like “Doesn’t this place look just like that scene?” while enjoying a meal makes everything taste even better.

The truth is up to you!

Original Manga Volumes 105–106: A Pancake Café in Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse

In this manga arc, the Red Brick Warehouse serves as the main stage. A pancake café called “bell’s,” modeled on the real-life “bills” at Red Brick Warehouse, appears in the story. The stylish café and the atmosphere of the warehouse are depicted beautifully, which made me happy as a local Yokohama resident.

Unfortunately, that particular café has since closed. However, after the warehouse’s renewal, many new and charming shops have opened there. It’s fun to imagine, “If Conan and his friends were to get caught up in an incident here again, which shop would it be this time?”

At night, the Red Brick Warehouse takes on a dramatic mood—the reddish bricks and lighting almost look like the cover art of a Conan manga chapter, with a wonderfully mysterious vibe.

It totally looks like something straight out of a Conan illustration!

Conclusion | Yokohama & Minato Mirai Are Ideal Conan Pilgrimage Destinations

As we’ve seen, Yokohama and Minato Mirai—despite being standard tourist spots—have been woven into the world of Conan in multiple ways.
